Checkmate and Caramel Wafers: Danny’s Story
Danny, a former Preston Lodge student, has been a dedicated
volunteer with us for the past two years - and he’s become a much-loved part of
our school community.
Though he admits school wasn’t always his favourite place, a spark
was lit when his Maths teacher at PL introduced him to chess - a game that’s been a passion of his
ever since.
Today, Danny shares that passion with current students at PL,
joining forces with Andrew Green, Chess Master from the Edinburgh
Chess Academy, to support our chess sessions. Whether he's offering
strategy tips or accepting a challenge, Danny is always met with enthusiasm
from staff and students alike.
And no session is complete without his signature break - a cup
of tea and a Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer, his favourite treat (and ours too,
now!).
Danny’s story is a wonderful reminder that school memories come in
all forms - and sometimes, it's the little moments, like a chess match or a
shared biscuit, that leave the biggest impact.
